Simple Baby Booties Pattern

Materials

  • Soft peach worsted weight yarn (approximately 100 yards)
  • Knitting needles (US size 8, 5.0 mm)
  • Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
  • Scissors

Gauge

20 stitches and 28 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch.

Abbreviations

  • k = knit
  • p = purl
  • st(s) = stitch(es)
  • RS = right side
  • WS = wrong side
  • BO = bind off
  • k2tog = knit two stitches together

Instructions

Leg Portion

  1. Cast on 28 stitches using the long tail method.
  2. Row 1 (RS): Knit all stitches.
  3. Row 2 (WS): Purl all stitches.
  4. Repeat Rows 1 and 2 until the piece measures 4 inches in height from the cast-on edge. This creates a rib pattern.
  5. Switch to stockinette stitch (knit one row, purl one row) until the piece measures 2 inches from the last rib row.

Foot Portion

  1. Continue in stockinette stitch for 10 rows (this will be the sole of the bootie).
  2. Next row: (RS) Knit 2, k2tog across the row (21 stitches). You will decrease the number of stitches to 21.
  3. Next row: (WS) Purl.
  4. Next row: (RS) Knit 2, k2tog across the row (14 stitches).
  5. Next row: (WS) Purl.
  6. Continue this decrease pattern until you have 7 stitches left.

Finishing

  1. Bind off remaining stitches loosely.
  2. Cut the yarn, leaving a tail of about 10 inches.
  3. Using the tapestry needle, thread the tail and weave in and out of the remaining stitches to gather. Pull tight to close the toe and secure.
  4. Weave in any loose ends and turn the bootie right side out.
  5. Repeat these steps for the second bootie.
