Textured Three-Dimensional Floral Motif Cardigan
Materials Needed:
- Yarn: Worsted weight yarn (approximately 1200 yards)
- Hook: Size I (5.5 mm) crochet hook
- Stitch markers
- Buttons: 5 medium-sized
- Tapestry needle for weaving ends
Gauge:
12 double crochets x 7 rows = 4 inches in flower motif.
Sizes:
This cardigan is available in sizes S, M, L, and XL. Adjustments can be made for length as needed.
Abbreviations:
- ch = chain
- dc = double crochet
- sl st = slip stitch
- st = stitch
- tr = treble crochet
Cardigan Body:
- With the main color, chain 80 (for size S; adjust as necessary for other sizes).
- Row 1: Dc in the 4th ch from the hook, and in each ch across (78 dc total). Turn.
- Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in next dc, *ch 1, skip 1, dc in next 2 dc; repeat from * across. Turn.
- Repeat Row 2 until work measures 22 inches from the beginning (or desired length). Fasten off.
Floral Motif:
Make 16 floral motifs:
- Make a magic ring, ch 3 (counts as first tr), 11 tr in the ring. Pull tight and join with sl st to top of ch 3.
- Round 2: Ch 1, *(dc, ch 1, dc) in next tr, skip 1 tr; repeat from * around. Join with sl st.
- Attach motifs to the cardigan by placing them as desired on the body, using a slip stitch to secure.
Sleeves:
- With the main color, chain 40.
- Row 1: Dc in the 4th ch from the hook and in each ch across (38 dc). Turn.
- Continue in pattern until sleeve measures 18 inches. Fasten off.
Assembly:
- Attach the sleeves to the body of the cardigan.
- For the ribbing, switch to a complementary color yarn:
- For cuffs, add a round of *ch 1, sc in each st; repeat* until desired length.
- Add buttons to the front for closure.
Finishing:
Weave in all ends and block the cardigan gently.
