Soft Textured Boxy Oversized Cardigan

This cardigan is worked from the top down in a simple yet elegant design. With comfortable oversized sleeves and a cozy fit, you can wear it open or buttoned up. This project is ideal for beginners, using basic crochet stitches and a charming stitch pattern.

Materials:

• Yarn: 1000-1500 yards of worsted weight yarn
• Hook: 5.5mm (I-9) crochet hook
• Buttons: 4-5 medium-sized buttons
• Scissors
• Tapestry needle for weaving in ends

• Single crochet (sc)
• Double crochet (dc)
• Shell stitch: (5 dc in the same stitch)
• Slip stitch (sl st)

This pattern is easily customizable and can be made to fit sizes XS to 5XL. Refer to the size chart at the end of this pattern for specific measurements.

Instructions:

1. Start with a foundation chain of 80 (or your desired width to fit your size).
2. Row 1: Dc in the 4th ch from the hook, dc across; turn.
3. Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), *dc in the next st, dc in the next st* repeat until the end, dc in top of the ch-3; turn.
4. Row 3: Ch 1, sc in the first st, *5 dc in the next st (shell stitch), sc in the next st* repeat until end; turn.
5. Rows 4-7: Repeat rows 2 and 3 alternatively until you reach the desired length (approximately 18-22 inches for the body).
6. For the sleeves: Once the body is complete, measure and attach yarn where the armholes will be located (roughly 8 inches down from the neck).
7. Work in rows as for the body, using 4-6 inches for the sleeves.
8. Finish by adding a ribbed cuff: Ch 1, sc in each st around the wrist, join with sl st.
9. Repeat for the other sleeve.
10. Join fronts and back at the shoulder seams using sl st. Sew on buttons for closure at the front.
11. Weave in all ends and block to measurements if necessary.
