Materials Needed:

  • Super bulky yarn in two colors (Body and Shell)
  • 6mm crochet hook
  • Polyester fiberfill for stuffing
  • Security eyes (20mm)
  • Sewing needle and yarn needle
  • Scissors

Abbreviations:

  • ch - chain
  • sc - single crochet
  • inc - increase (2 sc in the same stitch)
  • dec - decrease (single crochet two stitches together)
  • sl st - slip stitch
  • st - stitch

Body: (Make 1)

Round 1: With body color, magic ring, 6 sc (6)
Round 2: Inc in each st around (12)
Round 3: *sc in next st, inc in next*, repeat around (18)
Round 4: *sc in next 2 st, inc in next*, repeat around (24)
Rounds 5-10: sc in each st around (24)
Round 11: *sc in next 2 st, dec*, repeat around (18)
Round 12: *sc in next st, dec*, repeat around (12)
Stuff the body as you go.
Round 13: Dec around (6)
Fasten off, leaving a long tail to sew shut.

Shell: (Make 1)

Round 1: With shell color, magic ring, 6 sc (6)
Round 2: Inc in each st around (12)
Round 3: *sc in next st, inc in next*, repeat around (18)
Round 4: *sc in next 2 st, inc in next*, repeat around (24)
Round 5: *sc in next 3 st, inc in next*, repeat around (30)
Round 6-10: sc in each st around (30)
Round 11: *sc in next 3 st, dec*, repeat around (24)
Round 12: *sc in next 2 st, dec*, repeat around (18)
Round 13: *sc in next st, dec*, repeat around (12)
Stuff lightly, attach to body and hook yarn around to create the spiral effect.

Assembly:

  • Attach security eyes and sew a small smile onto the body.
  • Using the long tail from the body, sew the shell on top securely.
