Crochet Chunky Textured Open Front Cardigan Free Pattern

Materials:

  • Bulky yarn (approximately 800-900 yards)
  • Size K (6.5 mm) crochet hook
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Stitches Used:

  • Chain stitch (ch)
  • Slip stitch (sl st)
  • Half double crochet (hdc)
  • Post stitches (front and back post hdc)

Gauge:

12 hdc x 8 rows = 4 inches in textured stitch.

Size:

This pattern is designed to fit sizes S to XXXL. It can be easily adjusted by adding or subtracting stitches in multiples of 4.

Instructions:

  1. Back Panel:
    1. Ch 68 (or desired width) and hdc into the 3rd chain from the hook.
    2. Continue hdc across, turn.
    3. Ch 2, *hdc in the next st, hdc in the front post of the previous hdc*, repeat this pattern until you reach the end of the row. Turn.
    4. Repeat the last row until the piece measures 26 inches from the starting chain or desired length.
  2. Front Panels (Make 2):
    1. Ch 34 (or desired width) and hdc into the 3rd chain from the hook.
    2. Continue as for back panel until the piece measures 26 inches or desired length.
  3. Sleeves (Make 2):
    1. Ch 34 and hdc into the 3rd chain from the hook.
    2. Continue in hdc until the piece measures 18 inches or desired length.
  4. Assembly:
    1. Lay the back panel flat, and align the front panels on either side.
    2. Sew or slip stitch the sides together from the bottom of the front panels to the armholes.
    3. Attach sleeves to armholes using slip stitches, ensuring a snug fit.
  5. Finishing:
    1. Weave in all ends with a tapestry needle.
    2. Add any optional embellishments like buttons or pockets.
