Textured Crochet Blanket Pattern

This beginner-friendly crochet blanket features a beautiful textured pattern with contrasting colors. Follow the detailed steps below to create your own cozy blanket!

Materials:

  • Yarn: 3 skeins of fluffy yarn in vibrant orange, 2 skeins in rich navy
  • Hook: Size J (6.00 mm) crochet hook
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Gauge:

12 stitches x 8 rows = 4 inches in the textured pattern.

Abbreviations:

  • ch - chain
  • sc - single crochet
  • dc - double crochet
  • st(s) - stitch(es)
  • sl st - slip stitch

Instructions:

Step 1: Starting Chain

Begin by chaining 80 in orange yarn. Make sure your chain is not too tight and is even.

Step 2: Row 1 - Foundation Row

In the second chain from the hook, make a single crochet (sc). Then, single crochet in each chain across. You should have 79 sc by the end of this row. Turn your work.

Step 3: Row 2 - Textured Stitch

Ch 2 (this counts as your first double crochet), then stitch 1 dc in the next stitch. Now, in the next stitch, make a front post double crochet (FPdc) around the previous double crochet. Repeat this pattern (1 dc, 1 FPdc) until the end of the row. End with a dc in the last stitch. Turn your work.

Step 4: Row 3 - Change to Navy

To create a color change, in the last stitch of Row 2, pull through navy yarn instead of orange. Ch 2, then repeat the (1 dc, 1 FPdc) pattern until the end of the row. Turn your work.

Step 5: Repeat Rows

Continue alternating rows between orange and navy, maintaining the textured stitch pattern. Complete a total of 20 rows, or until your blanket reaches approximately 60 inches in length.

Step 6: Finish Off

Once your blanket is the desired length, finish off your last row by cutting the yarn, leaving a long tail. Pull the tail through the last loop to secure it. Use the tapestry needle to weave in all loose ends.

Final Touches:

Your textured crochet blanket is now complete! You can add fringes or borders if desired. Enjoy snuggling in your new cozy creation!
