Simple Crochet Dishcloth Pattern
This simple crochet dishcloth is perfect for beginners! It uses a basic stitch pattern that creates a lovely texture, making it functional and attractive. The dishcloth is made with soft cotton yarn, making it perfect for cleaning dishes or wiping down surfaces.
Materials
- 100% Cotton yarn (approx. 100g, you can choose a cream or light beige color)
- Crochet hook size H/8 (5mm)
- Scissors
- Yarn needle for weaving in ends
Gauge
15 double crochet stitches (dc) = 4 inches in width, and each row should measure approximately 2.5 inches in height.
Abbreviations
- ch - chain
- dc - double crochet
- sl st - slip stitch
- st - stitch
- sp - space
Instructions
Begin your dishcloth
- Start with a slip knot, then make 31 chains (ch). This will be the foundation chain for your dishcloth.
- In the 4th chain from your hook, make 1 double crochet (dc). This counts as your first dc and you'll have 2 ch skipped.
- Continue to make 1 dc in each chain across until you reach the end of your chain. You should have a total of 29 dc at the end of this row.
- To start your next row, chain 3 (this counts as your first dc in the new row). Turn your work.
- In the next stitch, make another dc. Continue to make 2 dc in each stitch across. By the end of this row, you should have 58 dc.
- For the next row, chain 2 (this will not count as a st). Turn your work. In the first dc, make a dc, then skip the next dc and make 2 dc in the following dc. Continue this pattern (1 dc, skip 1, 2 dc) across the row until you have 29 total '2 dc' spaces.
- Repeat this pattern (the previous step) for a total of 10 rows until your dishcloth reaches about 10 inches square.
- After you've completed your final row, cut your yarn leaving about a 6-inch tail. Pull the tail through the last loop on your hook to secure it.
- Weave in any loose ends with a yarn needle to finish your dishcloth.
Final Touches
Your dishcloth is now completed! It can be used for dishes or as a washcloth. They also make great gifts when paired with a cute dish soap or scrub brush!
Care Instructions
Wash your dishcloth in cold water and lay it flat to dry. This will help maintain its shape and texture.
