Materials
- Yarn: Bulky weight yarn (approximately 600 yards)
- Crochet Hook: Size J/10 (6.00 mm)
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
- Measuring tape
Gauge
4 double crochets and 3 rows = 4 inches square.
Abbreviations
- ch = chain
- dc = double crochet
- sl st = slip stitch
- st = stitch
- sp = space
Instructions
Body
- Start by making a foundation chain of 80 chains (or adjust for size, but ensure it's an even number).
- Row 1: In the 4th chain from the hook, make 1 dc. *Skip the next chain, make 1 dc in the next chain.* Repeat from * to * across. Turn.
- Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as first dc). *In the next sp, make 1 dc.* Repeat from * to * across. Turn.
- Repeat Row 2 until your piece measures approximately 17 inches from the foundation chain.
Armholes
- Next, chain 15 to create an opening for the armhole. Turn your work and skip 15 stitches in the previous row.
- Row 1: Make 1 dc in the next chain space, and then continue the pattern established.
- Repeat Row 2 for the remaining rows until sleeve measures approximately 15 inches.
- For the flared sleeve effect, make 5 more stitches in each succeeding dc row for the next 4 rows.
Finishing
- When you reach the desired length, fasten off and weave in all loose ends with the tapestry needle.
- To create the off-shoulder effect, drape the sweater over your shoulders and adjust as necessary.
Your crochet off-shoulder sweater is now complete! Wear it over a simple tank top or bralette for a trendy, summery look.
