Simple Blue Knitted Shawl

This project is a simple shawl knitted in a soft blue yarn. The shawl features a garter stitch pattern, which is perfect for beginners. The final size is approximately 60 inches wide and 28 inches long.

Materials

  • Worsted weight yarn (approximately 400 yards of soft blue yarn)
  • Size 8 (5 mm) knitting needles
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Gauge

18 stitches and 24 rows = 4 inches in garter stitch. Be sure to check your gauge to ensure the right fit!

Abbreviations

  • k = knit
  • p = purl
  • st(s) = stitch(es)
  • BO = bind off

Instructions

  1. Cast on 60 stitches.
  2. Work in garter stitch (knit every row) for a total of 80 rows.
  3. To create the garter stitch, simply knit every row until you've reached the desired length of 28 inches. Make sure to measure periodically!
  4. Once you reach 28 inches, it’s time to bind off. To do this, knit the first two stitches, then use the left needle to lift the first stitch over the second stitch and drop it off. Now you have one stitch on your right needle. Knit another stitch and repeat the process until you’ve bound off all stitches.
  5. Cut the yarn, leaving a 6-inch tail. Pull the tail through the last stitch to secure it.
  6. Weave in any loose ends with a tapestry needle.

Your Simple Blue Knitted Shawl is now complete! This cozy accessory not only enhances your wardrobe but also showcases your newfound knitting skills!
