16 double crochets and 8 rows = 4 inches in openwork lace pattern.

• dc = double crochet
• sl st = slip stitch
• sp = space

Instructions

1. Foundation Chain: Ch 88.
2. Row 1: Dc in the 4th ch from the hook (counts as first dc), then dc in each ch across. (86 dc)
3. Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), turn. *Dc in the next sp, ch 1; rep from * across. End with a dc in the last dc.
4. Row 3: Ch 3, turn. *Dc in the ch-1 sp, ch 1; rep from * across. End with a dc in the last dc.
5. Repeat Rows 2 and 3: until the piece measures approximately 18 inches from the foundation chain (or desired length). Remember to check gauge!
6. Shaping the armholes: Once you reach the desired length, you will create the armholes. Divide the front into 3 sections. Leave 22 stitches on each side for the back and 42 stitches for the front. Turn and work each side separately.
7. Armhole Edging: For each side, ch 3, and then dc in the next dc, ch 1, dc in the next dc. Continue until reaching the armhole base. Finish off.
8. Join sides: Use slip stitches to join the two sides together, ensuring the back fits comfortably.
9. Neck Edging: Turn the top to the back side and begin along the neck edge. Ch 1 and sc around the neck edge. Join and finish off.
10. Bottom Edging: Add a simple scalloped border around the bottom hem by chaining 5, sl st into the base of the previous stitch. Repeat around the entire bottom edge.
11. Finishing: Weave in all ends and block your garment to the desired shape.

This pattern can be adjusted in size by increasing or decreasing the foundation chain in multiples of 3 and the rounding portions for armholes as necessary.
