Cute Bear Hat for Infants

Materials
- Soft acrylic yarn in cream (approx. 100g)
- Soft acrylic yarn in light brown (approx. 50g)
- Yarn needle
- Knitting needles (4mm and 5mm)
- Scissors
- Stitch marker
- Safety eyes (optional) for bear face
Gauge
20 stitches and 24 rows = 10 cm (4 inches) in stockinette stitch using 5mm needles.
Abbreviations
- K = Knit
- P = Purl
- St = Stitch
- k2tog = Knit 2 together (decrease)
- PM = Place marker
- RS = Right side
- WS = Wrong side
Instructions
Hat Body
- Using 5mm needles and cream yarn, cast on 64 stitches.
- Work in ribbing (K2, P2) for 5 cm (2 inches).
- Change to stockinette stitch (K every row) and continue until the hat measures 15 cm (6 inches) from the cast-on edge.
- Next row: K2tog across the row (32 stitches remain).
- Next row: Purl across the row.
- Continue decreasing every alternate row, k2tog until 8 stitches remain.
- Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail, and thread it through the remaining stitches. Pull tight to secure and weave in the end.
Bears Ears (Make 2)
- Using 4mm needles and light brown yarn, cast on 16 stitches.
- Work in stockinette stitch (K one row, P one row) for 6 cm (2.5 inches).
- Next row: K2tog across the row (8 stitches remain).
- Next row: Purl across the row.
- Continue decreasing every alternate row until 4 stitches remain. Cut the yarn and thread through stitches, pull tight. Weave in the ends.
Bear Face Patch
- Using cream yarn, cast on 10 stitches.
- Work in garter stitch (K every row) for 10 rows.
- Switch to light brown yarn, and knit a row, then purl one row.
- On the next row, create the bear's face using safety eyes or embroidery to add details.
- Bind off, leaving a long tail to sew onto the hat.
Assembly
- Sew the bear ears onto the top of the hat using the yarn needle.
- Stitch the bear face patch onto the front of the hat, just above the ribbing.
- Weave in any remaining ends, and your adorable bear hat is ready!
