Crochet Whimsical Waves Textured Coasters

Materials Needed:
- Worsted weight cotton yarn (approx. 30 yards per coaster)
- 4.5 mm (G) crochet hook
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle for weaving ends
Stitches Used:
- Chain Stitch (ch)
- Single Crochet (sc)
- Double Crochet (dc)
- Popcorn Stitch (pc) - Formed by 5 double crochets in the same stitch, finished by pulling the last stitch through the first one.
- Slip Stitch (sl st)
Gauge:
Not crucial for coasters, but aim for an approximately 4" square.
Instructions:
- Foundation Round: Make a magic ring, ch 3 (counts as the first dc), and work 10 dc into the ring. Pull the ring tight and join with sl st to the top of the ch 3. (11 dc total)
- Round 1: Ch 3, 1 dc in the same stitch, *2 dc in the next st* repeat from * to * around, join with sl st to top of ch 3. (22 dc total)
- Round 2: Ch 3, *1 dc in next st, 2 dc in the next st* repeat from * to * around, join with sl st to top of ch 3. (33 dc total)
- Round 3: Ch 1, *sc in next st, pc in the next st* repeat from * to * around, join with sl st to first sc.
- Round 4: Ch 1, sc in each st around. (75 sc)
- Round 5: Ch 1, *sc in next 3 st, pc in the next st* repeat from * to * around. Join with sl st to first sc. (Increasing texture)
- Repeat Round 4 until desired thickness is reached, ending with a round of sc.
- Fasten off and weave in ends.
Finishing:
If desired, add fringe by cutting yarn strands and tying them along the edges for extra bohemian charm. Feel free to experiment with color combinations!
Care Instructions:
Machine wash in cold water, lay flat to dry.
