Crochet Whimsical Playful Bat Wall Hanging Free Pattern

Materials Needed:

  • Worsted weight yarn in black, purple, and white
  • G/4.0 mm crochet hook
  • Fiberfill stuffing (optional, for a 3D effect)
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors
  • Small amount of felt (for eyes)
  • Hot glue gun (for attaching eyes)

Gauge:

If desired, check your gauge. This pattern does not need to be gauge specific.

Abbreviations:

  • ch = chain
  • sc = single crochet
  • dc = double crochet
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • inc = increase
  • dec = decrease

Instructions:

Body:

1. Start with a magic ring, ch 1 and work 6 sc into the ring (6) 2. Rnd 2: Inc in each stitch around (12) 3. Rnd 3: *sc in next stitch, inc* around (18) 4. Rnd 4: *sc in next 2 stitches, inc* around (24) 5. Rnd 5-7: sc in each stitch around (24) 6. Rnd 8: *sc in next 2 stitches, dec* around (18) 7. Rnd 9: sc in each stitch around (18) 8. Rnd 10: *sc in next stitch, dec* around (12) 9. If using stuffing, stuff the body at this point. 10. Rnd 11: dec around (6), sl st to finish, fasten off.

Wings (Make 2):

1. Ch 24. 2. Row 1: Starting in the 2nd ch from hook, dc across (23) 3. Row 2: Ch 1, turn. Sc in the first stitch, then *ch 3, skip next 2 stitches, sc in next*, repeat to end, sl st to finish. 4. Fasten off, leave a long tail for sewing.

Assembly:

1. Position each wing on either side of the bat body and sew in place using the long tails. 2. Cut out two ovals from the white felt for the eyes and glue them onto the body. Add black pupils if desired. 3. For a hanging loop, attach a ch 10 chain at the top of the bat’s head.

Finishing Touches:

Weave in any loose ends. Your whimsical bat is now ready to hang and bring some playful spirit to your Halloween decor!
