Materials Needed:

• Worsted weight yarn in orange, green, and brown
• 3.5 mm (E) crochet hook
• Yarn needle
• Stuffing (polyester fiberfill)
• Scissors
• Black yarn or embroidery thread for facial features

Abbreviations:

• ch = chain
• sc = single crochet
• inc = increase (2 sc in one stitch)
• dec = decrease (sc two together)

Body of Gourd:

Round 1: With orange yarn, make a magic circle and 6 sc in the circle (6)
Round 2: Inc in each stitch around (12)
Round 3: (sc in next stitch, inc) repeat around (18)
Round 4: (sc in next 2 stitches, inc) repeat around (24)
Rounds 5-10: sc in each stitch around (24)
Round 11: (sc in next 2 stitches, dec) repeat around (18)
Round 12: (sc in next stitch, dec) repeat around (12)
Round 13: Dec around to close (6)

Top of Gourd:

Round 1: Ch 5, sl st to first ch to form a ring.
Round 2: Ch 1, 8 sc in ring, join (8)
Round 3: (sc in next stitch, inc) repeat around (12)
Round 4: (sc in next 5 stitches, inc) repeat around (14)
Round 5: (sc in next 6 stitches, inc) repeat around (16)

Assembly:

1. Weave yarn through the top of the gourd and pull tight to close. 
2. Attach the top to the body using sl st. 
3. Make a small twisted vine using green yarn, and sew it onto the top.
4. Using black yarn, embroider two small eyes and a smile to create the face.
5. Stuff the gourd firmly with fiberfill.
