Textured Twisted Swirl Mat

Gauge:

Gauge is not critical for this project, however, achieving a tight tension will give a more defined shape.

Abbreviations:

• ch - chain
• dc - double crochet
• fpdc - front post double crochet
• sl st - slip stitch

Pattern:

Base Round:

1. Ch 4, join with a sl st to form a ring.
2. Round 1: Ch 2 (counts as first dc), 11 dc in ring. Join with sl st to top of beginning ch-2. (12 dc)

Spiral Rounds:

1. Round 2: Switch to contrasting color. Ch 2, dc in same stitch, *2 dc in next st, 1 dc in next st; repeat from * around. Join with sl st to first dc. (18 dc)
2. Round 3: Ch 2, fpdc around the first dc, dc in next st. Repeat *fpdc around next dc, dc in next st; end with sl st to first fpdc. (27 stitches)
3. Round 4: Change back to original color. Ch 2, dc in next 2 sts. *2 dc in next st, dc in next 2 sts; repeat from * around, join. (36 stitches)

Textured Finish:

1. Round 5: Ch 2, fpdc around first dc, *dc in next 2 sts, fpdc around next dc; repeat from * around, sl st to first fpdc.
2. Round 6: Ch 2, dc in each st around, sl st to first dc.

Finishing:

Fasten off and weave in all ends. You can block your mat to enhance the spiral shape if desired.
