Materials
- Worsted weight yarn in a soft green color
- Size H/8 (5 mm) crochet hook
- Polyester fiberfill stuffing
- Tapestry needle
- Heart-shaped button
- Scissors
Gauge
Gauge is not critical for this project, but stitch density should be tight enough to contain stuffing.
Abbreviations
- ch = chain
- sc = single crochet
- st = stitch
- inc = increase (2 sc in one stitch)
- dec = decrease (single crochet two stitches together)
- sl st = slip stitch
Instructions
Heart
Make 2 pieces.
- Start with a magic ring.
- Round 1: 6 sc into the ring. (6 sts)
- Round 2: Inc around. (12 sts)
- Round 3: (Sc in next st, inc) around. (18 sts)
- Round 4: (Sc in next 2 sts, inc) around. (24 sts)
- Round 5: (Sc in next 3 sts, inc) around. (30 sts)
- Rounds 6-8: Sc around. (30 sts)
- Break yarn and fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Assembly
- Place the two heart pieces together with wrong sides facing in.
- Using the yarn tail and tapestry needle, whip stitch around the edges to join, leaving a gap of about 1-2 inches.
- Stuff heart firmly with polyester fiberfill to desired plumpness.
- Sew the gap closed, securely fastening off the yarn.
- Weave in any loose ends.
Finishing
- Wrap a few strands of yarn around the center of the heart, securing with a knot.
- Sew the heart-shaped button onto the knot for decoration.
