Ethereal Lace Butterfly-Inspired Poncho
Materials:
- 4 skeins of lightweight cotton blend yarn
- 6.5 mm (K) crochet hook
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
Gauge: 12 double crochets and 7 rows = 4 inches in lace pattern
Size: One size fits most (wingspan approximately 60 inches)
Instructions:
Note: The poncho is worked from the top down in a rectangular shape, allowing for an open weave lace finish.
Foundation Chain:
Chain 90.
Row 1:
In the 4th chain from the hook, work 1 double crochet (dc). *Chain 1, skip 1 chain, 1 dc in the next chain.* Repeat from * to * until the end of the row. Turn.
Row 2:
Ch 3 (counts as first dc), 1 dc in the same stitch, *ch 1, skip next dc, 1 dc in the next ch-1 space.* Repeat from * to * across. Turn.
Row 3:
Ch 3, 1 dc in the same space, *ch 1, 1 dc in the ch-1 space.* Repeat from * to * across. Turn.
Rows 4-15:
Repeat Row 2 until you reach the desired length (approximately 24 inches). Finish with a row of dc to secure edges.
Finishing:
Fasten off, weave in ends with a yarn needle.
Edging: To add a decorative edge, single crochet around the entire outer edge of the poncho. This will give it a cleaner look and enhance the lace pattern.
Blocking (optional):
Block the poncho to shape and enhance the lace detail. Lay flat on a blocking mat, stretch gently and allow to dry completely.
