Materials

  • Velvet yarn in terracotta (approx. 50g)
  • Black embroidery thread for facial features
  • 4 mm crochet hook
  • Stuffing
  • Tapestry needle
  • Scissors

Gauge

16 single crochet stitches and 19 rows = 4 inches (10 cm) in single crochet.

Abbreviations

  • sc: single crochet
  • inc: increase (2 sc in the same stitch)
  • dec: decrease (single crochet 2 stitches together)
  • fo: finish off

Instructions

Body

  1. Round 1: Make a magic ring with 6 sc. (6)
  2. Round 2: Inc in each stitch around. (12)
  3. Round 3: (1 sc, inc) six times. (18)
  4. Round 4: (2 sc, inc) six times. (24)
  5. Round 5-10: Sc in each stitch around. (24)
  6. Round 11: (2 sc, dec) six times. (18)
  7. Round 12: (1 sc, dec) six times. (12)
  8. Round 13: Dec in each stitch. (6)
  9. Stuff the body firmly.
  10. Fo and weave in ends.

Claws (make 2)

  1. Round 1: Make a magic ring with 4 sc. (4)
  2. Round 2: Inc in each stitch around. (8)
  3. Round 3-5: Sc in each stitch around. (8)
  4. Fo, leaving a long tail for sewing. Stuff lightly.

Legs (make 6)

  1. Chain 6.
  2. Row 1: Starting in the second chain from hook, sc across. (5)
  3. Fo leaving a tail for attaching.

Assembly

  1. Sew the claws to the sides of the body.
  2. Attach the legs near the bottom of the body, three on each side.
  3. Use black embroidery thread to stitch eyes and a mouth onto the front of the body.
