Materials Needed
- Medium weight yarn (size 4) in green, yellow, and purple
- 3.5 mm crochet hook
- Stuffing (optional for added stability)
- Safety eyes (9 mm)
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
Stitches Used
- Chain (ch)
- Slip stitch (sl st)
- Single crochet (sc)
- Half double crochet (hdc)
- Double crochet (dc)
Instructions
Body
- Start with green yarn. Make a magic ring.
- Round 1: 6 sc in magic ring (6)
- Round 2: 2 sc in each stitch around (12)
- Rounds 3-8: sc in each stitch around (12) (6 rounds)
- Round 9: (sc in next stitch, inc) around (18)
- Round 10: (sc in next 2 stitches, inc) around (24)
- Rounds 11-14: sc in each stitch around (24) (4 rounds)
- Round 15: (sc in next 2 stitches, dec) around (18)
- Round 16: (sc in next stitch, dec) around (12)
- Stuff lightly, then continue to dec until closed. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Wings (Make 2)
- Start with purple yarn. Ch 4.
- Row 1: dc in 4th ch from hook, ch 1, turn.
- Row 2: 2 dc in same stitch, hdc in next stitch, sc in last stitch. Fasten off.
Tail Spikes (Make 3)
- Ch 2 with green yarn.
- Round 1: 5 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Fasten off.
Assembly
- Using the long yarn tail from the body, sew the wings onto the back of the cozy.
- Sew tail spikes onto the back, starting from the top down.
- Attach safety eyes to the front of the cozy, placing them below the head area.
- Embroider a smile with purple yarn to add character.
Finishing Touches
- Optional: You can attach a small loop of yarn at the top to hang the cozy.
- Insert the freeze pop into the cozy and enjoy the fun!
