Cozy Raglan Sweater Pattern

Materials

  • Yarn: DK weight, approximately 1000-1200 yards (depending on size), in a warm brown color
  • Needles: US size 6 (4mm) circular needles, 24 inches or longer for body; US size 6 (4mm) double-pointed needles or Magic Loop method for sleeves
  • Stitch markers
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors

Gauge

22 stitches and 28 rows = 4 inches (10 cm) in stockinette stitch

Abbreviations

  • CO: Cast On
  • BO: Bind Off
  • k: Knit
  • p: Purl
  • st(s): Stitch(es)
  • pm: Place Marker
  • sm: Slip Marker
  • k2tog: Knit Two Together
  • ssk: Slip, Slip, Knit

Instructions

Neckband

  1. CO 80 (90, 100, 110) sts using US size 6 circular needles.
  2. Join to work in the round, being careful not to twist. Place marker to indicate beginning of round.
  3. Work in k1, p1 ribbing for 1 inch (2.5 cm).

Raglan Yoke

  1. Switch to stockinette stitch (knit every round) and begin raglan increases as follows:
  2. Round 1: *k1, pm, k1, pm, repeat from * 3 more times (2 markers with 1 stitch between them at each raglan seam).
  3. Round 2: k to 1 st before first marker, k2tog, sm, k1, sm, ssk; repeat from * 3 more times to end of round.
  4. Repeat Round 2 until you have 180 (200, 220, 240) sts.

Separate Body and Sleeves

  1. Next Round: Remove markers as you knit. Knit to first marker, place sleeve sts on a holder, CO 8 (10, 12, 14) sts for underarm, knit across back to next marker, place sleeve sts on a holder, CO 8 (10, 12, 14) sts for underarm, knit to end.
  2. Continue knitting in the round for the body until it measures 14 inches (35.5 cm) from underarm or desired length.

Body Hem

  1. Switch to k1, p1 ribbing for 1 inch (2.5 cm).
  2. BO loosely in rib pattern.

Sleeves

  1. Transfer sleeve sts to double-pointed needles or Magic Loop.
  2. CO 8 (10, 12, 14) sts at underarm to join.
  3. Work in stockinette stitch, knitting in the round, until sleeve measures 17 inches (43 cm) from underarm or desired length.
  4. Switch to k1, p1 ribbing for 1 inch (2.5 cm).
  5. BO loosely in rib pattern.
  6. Repeat for the second sleeve.

Finishing

  1. Weave in all ends with a yarn needle.
  2. Block to measurements to smooth out any uneven stitches.
