Cozy Crochet Puff Stitch Blanket

Introduction

Welcome to your next crafting adventure! In this blog post, we will guide you through creating a warm and inviting crochet blanket using the puff stitch. This pattern is not only perfect for adding a handmade touch to your home decor, but it’s also an excellent project for beginners. The textured puff stitch creates a cozy feel that will keep you warm on chilly nights. Let’s get started on this delightful crochet journey!

Materials Needed

  • Yarn: Super bulky yarn (choose your favorite color for a personal touch)
  • Hook: Size N/P (10 mm) crochet hook
  • Scissors: For cutting the yarn
  • Tapestry needle: For weaving in ends

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Foundation Chain: Start by making a foundation chain in multiples of 2 plus 1. For example, if you want a blanket that is 40 inches wide, you might chain 81 (40 x 2 + 1 = 81).
  2. Row 1:
    1. Skip the first chain from your hook.
    2. Yarn over and insert your hook into the next chain.
    3. Yarn over again and pull up a loop. You should have three loops on your hook.
    4. Yarn over and pull through the first loop on your hook (this creates a chain stitch).
    5. Yarn over and insert your hook into the same chain again.
    6. Yarn over and pull up another loop. You should now have five loops on your hook.
    7. Yarn over and pull through all five loops on your hook. This completes your first puff stitch.
    8. Chain 1 to create a space between puff stitches.
    9. Repeat from the asterisk (*) across the row until you reach the end. You should end with a puff stitch followed by a chain 1.
    10. Turn your work.
  3. Row 2:
    1. Chain 1 to start the new row.
    2. In the chain-1 space of the previous row, make a puff stitch by following the same steps as in Row 1.
    3. Chain 1 to create a space between puff stitches.
    4. Repeat from the asterisk (*) across the row until you reach the end. You should end with a puff stitch followed by a chain 1.
    5. Turn your work.
  4. Repeat: Continue repeating Row 2 until your blanket reaches the desired length. This could be anywhere from 40 to 60 inches or more, depending on your preference.
  5. Finishing: Once your blanket is at the desired length, fasten off your yarn by cutting it, leaving a tail of about 6 inches. Pull the tail through the last loop on your hook to secure it. Use your tapestry needle to weave in any loose ends for a clean finish.

Congratulations! You've just completed your very own Cozy Crochet Puff Stitch Blanket. Enjoy snuggling up with your new creation or gift it to someone special. Happy crocheting!
