Materials

• Worsted weight cotton yarn (approximately 100 yards)
• Size G (4.0 mm) crochet hook
• Yarn needle for weaving ends

4 x 4 inches = 10 stitches x 12 rows in double crochet

Abbreviations

• ch = chain
• sc = single crochet
• dc = double crochet
• sl st = slip stitch
• st = stitch

Instructions

1. Start a Foundation Chain: Chain 36 (or adjust for your can size) and join with a slip stitch to form a ring.
2. Round 1: Ch 2 (counts as first dc), dc in each st around. Join with sl st to top of ch 2. (36 stitches)
3. Round 2: Ch 1, *sc in next st, dc in next st; repeat from * around. Join with sl st to first sc.
4. Round 3: Ch 2, *dc in next 2 st, sk 1 st; repeat from * around. Join with sl st to top of ch 2.
5. Round 4: Ch 1, *sc in next st, dc in next st; repeat from * around. Join with sl st.
6. Repeat rounds 3 and 4 for 8 more rounds, or until you reach your desired height.
7. Finish: Cut yarn and pull through last stitch to secure. Weave in ends.

Optional Customization

Feel free to play with colors or add a border of shells at the top by substituting the last round with a series of 5 dc in each stitch, skipping one stitch in between!
