The Peridot Pebble Beanie: A Free Knitting Pattern for a Textured, Gemstone-Inspired Winter Hat

Anonymous July 28, 2026

Introducing the Peridot Pebble Beanie

Looking for a knitting project that combines modern texture with cozy warmth? The Peridot Pebble Beanie is a stunning, gemstone-inspired hat that uses slipped stitches and purl bumps to create a faceted, pebbled surface reminiscent of a peridot gemstone. This pattern is perfect for adventurous beginners or intermediate knitters who want to add a unique, textured accessory to their winter wardrobe. The rich olive green shown here (Malabrigo Rios in 'Oliva') gives the hat a natural, earthy depth, but any worsted weight yarn will work beautifully. Let’s get started on this satisfying, one-of-a-kind knit!

Materials Needed

  • Yarn: Worsted weight yarn (Category 4). Approximately 200 yards. Sample shown in Malabrigo Rios in 'Oliva'.
  • Needles: US 7 (4.5 mm) 16-inch circular needle and a set of double-pointed needles (or size needed to obtain gauge).
  • Notions: Stitch marker, tapestry needle for weaving in ends.
  • Gauge: 20 stitches and 28 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch, after blocking. Take time to check gauge for best fit.

Finishing

Cut the yarn, leaving a 6-inch tail. Thread the tail through a tapestry needle and pass it through the remaining 10 stitches. Pull tight to close the top of the hat. Weave in all ends securely on the inside of the hat. Block gently (spritz with water and lay flat to dry) to open up the textured pattern and even out the stitches. Enjoy your new Peridot Pebble Beanie!
