Stars and Stripes Beach Tote
This lively beach tote features a bold block pattern inspired by the American flag, along with vibrant colors that evoke a sense of summer fun.
Materials
- Worsted weight yarn in the following colors:
- Deep blue (Color A) - 200g
- Bright red (Color B) - 150g
- Cream (Color C) - 150g
- Size H (5.0 mm) crochet hook
- Yarn needle for weaving in ends
- Stitch markers (optional)
Gauge
15 stitches and 12 rows = 4 inches in single crochet (SC)
Abbreviations
- CH - Chain
- SC - Single Crochet
- SL ST - Slip Stitch
- DC - Double Crochet
- ST - Stitch
- FO - Fasten Off
Instructions
Base of the Tote
- With Color C, CH 40.
- Row 1: SC in the 2nd CH from hook and in each CH across. (39 SC)
- Row 2-5: CH 1, turn. SC in each ST across (39 SC).
- Change to Color A.
- Row 6-9: CH 1, turn. SC in each ST across (39 SC).
- Change to Color B.
- Row 10-13: CH 1, turn. SC in each ST across (39 SC).
- Change to Color A.
- Row 14-17: CH 1, turn. SC in each ST across (39 SC).
- Change to Color C, CH 1 and SC in each ST across for 5 more rows (39 SC).
Body of the Tote
- Continue with Color C, CH 1. SC in each ST across for 12 rows (39 SC).
- Switch to Color A and alternate between Rows of SC and DC for 12 rows. (Keep Color A as the top stripe.)
- Repeat alternating rows with Color B for 6 rows.
- Finish with 4 rows of Color C.
Finishing
- Fold the top of the tote down about 4 inches for the bag opening.
- SC along the edges to secure the top fold.
- Add handles: CH 50, SL ST to attach it securely to the inner side of the tote, adjusting for desired length.
- Repeat for the second handle on the opposite side.
- Weave in all ends with a yarn needle.
