Granny Square Blanket Pattern

This granny square blanket is a fun and colorful project made up of various granny squares stitched together. It is perfect for beginners looking to practice crochet skills while creating something lovely for their home.

Materials

• Worsted weight yarn in multiple colors (approximately 10 skeins total)
• Size H (5.0 mm) crochet hook
• Yarn needle for weaving ends
• Scissors

Gauge

Each granny square measures approximately 6 inches x 6 inches after blocking. Gauge is not critical for this project, but it’s good to be consistent!

Abbreviations

• ch = chain
• sl st = slip stitch
• sc = single crochet
• dc = double crochet
• sp = space
• rep = repeat

Granny Square Instructions

1. Start with a slip knot. Chain 4 and join with a slip stitch to form a ring.
2. Round 1: Chain 3 (counts as first dc), 2 dc in the ring, *ch 2, 3 dc in the ring; rep from * 2 more times. Join with a sl st to top of starting ch-3. (You will have 3 clusters with 2 ch spaces between them.)
3. Round 2: Slip stitch into the next 2 dc and into ch-2 space. Chain 3, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in the same ch-2 space. *3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in the next ch-2 space; rep from * 2 more times. Join with sl st to top of starting ch-3.
4. Round 3: Slip stitch into the next 2 dc and into the ch-2 space. Chain 3, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in the same ch-2 space. *3 dc in the next cluster, ch 2, 3 dc in the next ch-2 space; rep from * 2 more times. Join with sl st to top of starting ch-3.
5. Continue adding rounds until your square measures approximately 6 inches across. You can change colors at the beginning of each round if you want to add different colors!
6. Finish off and weave in all ends using a yarn needle.

Assembling the Blanket

1. Make as many granny squares as you want to reach your desired blanket size (we recommend around 30 squares).
2. Arrange the squares in a layout you like.
3. Using a yarn needle, stitch together the squares in rows, then stitch the rows together. You can use the whip stitch for a neat seam.

Finishing Touches

Feel free to add a border around your blanket for added charm! To do this, simply single crochet around the entire blanket, creating 3 sc in each corner to keep the blanket flat.
