Materials Needed:

• Worsted weight yarn in two contrasting colors (approximately 100 yards each)
• Size H (5.0 mm) crochet hook

Round 4:

Chain 2, *DC in next 2 stitches, 2 DC in next stitch; repeat from * around. Join. (40 DC)

Rounds 5-8:

Chain 2, DC in each stitch around. Join. (40 DC)

Round 9:

Chain 2, *DC in next 2 stitches, DC together in the next stitch; repeat from * around. Join. (30 DC)

Round 10:

Chain 2, *DC in next stitch, DC together in the next; repeat from * around. Join. (20 DC)

Round 11:

Chain 2, *DC together in each stitch around. Join. (10 DC)

Final Round:

Chain 1, single crochet around to complete the edge. Join and fasten off.

Creating the Twists:

• Using your second color of yarn, create 6 – 8 twisted yarn strands, approximately 12 inches long.
• Attach these twisted strands evenly around the crown of the hat, securing them well with knots.

Finishing Touches:
