Crochet Whimsical Textured Pencil Keeper with Magnetic Fastener Free Pattern
Materials:
- Worsted weight cotton yarn (approx. 100 grams)
- 4.0 mm (G) crochet hook
- Yarn needle
- Magnetic strip, adhesive-backed
- Scissors
Gauge:
Not crucial for this project, but keep your tension consistent.
Abbreviations:
- ch = chain
- sc = single crochet
- hdc = half double crochet
- sl st = slip stitch
- st = stitch
Instructions:
Base:
- Ch 6.
- Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across (5 sc). Turn.
- Row 2: Ch 1, sc in first st, hdc in next st, sc in next 3 sts (5 sts). Turn.
- Row 3: Ch 1, sc in first 3 sts, hdc in next st, sc in last st (5 sts). Turn.
- Repeat rows 2-3 until piece measures 4 inches high.
Body:
- Ch 1, sc around the entire top edge of the base (5 sc in each corner). Join with sl st.
- Continue in rounds: Ch 1, sc in each st around until the body measures 4 inches tall.
Finishing:
- For the flap: Ch 6, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across (5 sc). Turn.
- Row 2: Ch 1, hdc in first st, sc in next 2 sts, hdc in last (5 sts). Turn.
- Repeat rows 1-2 until the flap measures 3 inches. Fasten off.
- Attach the flap to the body using sl st or whip stitch about 1 inch from the top edge.
- Cut a piece of the magnetic strip to fit the back of the keeper and adhere securely.

Weave in all ends, and your whimsical textured pencil keeper is ready to brighten up your workspace!
