Crochet Whimsical Textured Baby Mittens

Skill Level: Beginner

Materials Needed:

• Worsted weight yarn (approx. 50g)
• Crochet hook size G/4mm
• Yarn needle for weaving ends
• Scissors

Stitches Used:

• Chain (ch)
• Single crochet (sc)
• Half double crochet (hdc)
• Slip stitch (sl st)

Gauge: 18 stitches x 10 rows = 4" in hdc pattern

Pattern Instructions:

Start with the Cuff

1. Ch 10.
2. Row 1: Hdc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across (9 hdc). Turn.
3. Row 2: Ch 1, hdc in back loop only (blo) for 9 hdc. Turn.
4. Repeat Row 2 for a total of 10 rows or until desired length is reached for the cuff.
5. Fold cuff in half and slip stitch across top to join in the round.

Body of the Mitten

1. Ch 1, then sc evenly around the top of the cuff (9 sc). Join with sl st to first sc to form a ring.
2. Round 1: Ch 1, hdc in each sc around (9 hdc). Join.
3. Round 2: Ch 1, (hdc, hdc in next st) repeat around (1 increase in each stitch, 18 hdc). Join.
4. Round 3: Ch 1, hdc in each hdc around (18 hdc). Join.
5. Round 4: Ch 1, (hdc, hdc decrease) until 6 hdc remain. Join.
6. Round 5: Ch 1, hdc in each hdc around, fasten off.

Create the Thumb

1. Join yarn to the side of the mitten where you want the thumb.
2. Ch 5 (this will be your thumb opening). In the 2nd ch from hook, work 1 sc. Continue with sc in next 3 chs (4 sc total).
3. Join with sl st to the mitten body.
4. Work 4 rounds of hdc around thumb (4 hdc), fasten off.

Finishing

Weave in any loose ends with a yarn needle. Feel free to add embellishments like buttons or pompoms for extra charm!
