Whimsical Holiday Gingerbread Man Ornaments

Skill Level: Easy

Materials:

• Hook: H (5.0 mm)
• Yarn: Worsted weight yarn (4) in brown, white, and a small amount of red and green
• Yarn Needle
• Polyester stuffing (optional, for a plushy effect)
• Plastic safety eyes or beads (for decoration)

Stitches Used:

• Chain (ch)
• Slip Stitch (sl st)
• Single Crochet (sc)
• Double Crochet (dc)
• Half Double Crochet (hdc)
• Picot Stitch (pcst)

Size: Approximately 5 inches tall

Pattern Instructions:

Body

1. With brown yarn, make a magic ring.
2. Round 1: 6 sc in the magic ring (6)
3. Round 2: 2 sc in each stitch around (12)
4. Round 3: *1 sc, 2 sc in next stitch* repeat around (18)
5. Round 4-8: sc in each stitch around (18)
6. Round 9: *1 sc, 1 decrease* repeat around (12)
7. Round 10: *1 sc, 1 decrease* repeat around (6)
8. Fasten off and stuff lightly if desired.

Arms (make 2)

1. With brown yarn, ch 8.
2. Row 1: Starting in the 2nd ch from the hook, hdc in each ch (7)
3. Row 2: ch 1, turn, sc in each (7)
4. Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.

Legs (make 2)

1. Repeat the arm instructions for the legs, but make them longer (ch 12 instead).

Head

1. With brown yarn, create a magic ring and work 4 sc into it.
2. Increase like the body until desired size for the head.
3. Attach safety eyes or sew on bead eyes and a smile using white yarn.

Assembly

1. Attach the arms to the sides of the body.
2. Attach the legs at the bottom of the body.
3. Sew the head onto the top of the body.
4. Use white yarn to create icing details around the arms, legs, and neck, and attach red and green yarn for buttons.

Finishing: Weave in all ends and hang your ornaments with a loop of yarn!
