Crochet Simple Buttoned Beanie Hat Free Pattern

Materials

• Worsted weight yarn in taupe
• Size H/8 (5.0 mm) crochet hook
• 1 large wooden button
• Tapestry needle

Abbreviations

• ch = chain
• sc = single crochet
• hdc = half double crochet
• st = stitch
• sl st = slip stitch
• rep = repeat

Pattern

Base Band

1. Ch 11.
2. Row 1: Sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across, turn. (10 sc)
3. Row 2: Ch 1, sc in back loop only (blo) of each st across, turn. (10 sc)
4. Rep Row 2 until band measures approximately 20 inches or fits snugly around head measurement.
5. Join ends with sl st to form a loop.

Hat Body

6. Round 1: Ch 1, work sc evenly along edge of band, join with sl st. Ensure to have an even number of sts. (60 sc)
7. Round 2: Ch 1, hdc in each st around, join with sl st. (60 hdc)
8. Round 3-12: Rep Round 2.
9. Then, begin decrease:
10. Round 13: (Hdc in next 8 sts, hdc2tog) around, join. (54 hdc)
11. Round 14: (Hdc in next 7 sts, hdc2tog) around, join. (48 hdc)
12. Continue decreasing in this manner until you have around 12 sts left. Fasten off, leaving a long tail.

Finishing

14. Use the tail to sew top opening closed.
