Materials

  • Yarn: Bulky weight yarn in two colors (Color A: Cream, Color B: Burgundy)

Gauge

8 sts x 5 rows = 4” [10 cm] in double crochet using 2 strands of yarn.

Stitches and Abbreviations

  • ch: chain
  • dc: double crochet
  • sl st: slip stitch
  • sp: space
  • st: stitch

Pattern

Main Poncho

  1. Foundation: With Color A, ch 72. Join with a sl st to form a ring.
  2. Row 1: Ch 3 (counts as dc), dc in same st, *ch 1, skip 1 st, 2 dc in next st; repeat from * around. Join with a sl st to top of ch-3.
  3. Row 2: Ch 3, dc in same st, *ch 1, 2 dc in next ch-1 sp; repeat from * around. Join with a sl st to top of ch-3.
  4. Rows 3-8: Repeat Row 2.
  5. Row 9: Switch to Color B. Repeat Row 2.
  6. Rows 10-11: Repeat Row 2 with Color B.
  7. Rows 12-20: Switch to Color A and repeat Row 2.
  8. Row 21: Switch to Color B. Repeat Row 2.
  9. Rows 22-23: Repeat Row 2 with Color B.
  10. Rows 24-32: Switch to Color A and repeat Row 2. Fasten off.

Collar

  1. With Color A, attach yarn at the top edge of poncho and work dc evenly around to create a ribbed collar.
  2. Work in dc for five rows, ensuring the collar can comfortably fit over your head.

Finishing

  1. Fringe: Cut strands of yarn approximately 8 inches long. Attach fringe along the bottom edge using both Color A and Color B.
  2. Weave in all ends using the yarn needle.
