This beautiful shawl is a perfect gift for new parents and a lovely keepsake for generations to come. With its lightweight and airy design, it is ideal for wrapping around a newborn or using as a decorative piece in a nursery.

Materials Needed:

  • Yarn: Worsted weight #4 yarn (approx. 600 yards)
  • Crochet Hook: 5.00mm (H-8)
  • Stitch Markers
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry Needle for weaving in ends

Gauge:

16 stitches and 20 rows = 4 inches in lace pattern (unstretched)

Finished Size:

Approximately 40 inches x 40 inches

Pattern Instructions:

  1. Start by making a chain of 85 stitches.
  2. Row 1: Double crochet in the fourth chain from the hook, chain 1, skip 1 chain, double crochet in the next chain, repeat until the end of the row. Turn.
  3. Row 2: Chain 3 (counts as first double crochet), turn, double crochet in the chain-1 space from the previous row, chain 1, double crochet in the next chain-1 space. Repeat across the row. Turn.
  4. Row 3: Chain 3, turn, and in the first chain-1 space, make 2 double crochet, chain 1, skip the next space, 2 double crochet in the next space. Repeat to end. Turn.
  5. Continue this pattern, alternating between Row 2 and Row 3, until the shawl measures approximately 39 inches.
  6. After completing the last row, finish off and weave in the ends.

Edging:

  1. For the edging, attach yarn to any corner of the shawl.
  2. Single crochet around the entire shawl, putting 3 single crochets in each corner to maintain a nice shape. Join with a slip stitch to the first single crochet.
  3. For the final touch, make a shell stitch by chaining 5 and skipping 2 stitches, single crocheting into the next stitch. Repeat this across the edge of the shawl.

Finishing:

Block the shawl to enhance the lace pattern, shaping as desired. Your delicate whispering lace shawl is now ready to be gifted or treasured!
