Crochet Delicate Twisted Lace Baby Sundress

Materials Needed:

  • Sport weight cotton yarn (approximately 300 - 400 yards)
  • 5.0 mm (H) crochet hook
  • Yarn needle for weaving in ends
  • Scissors
  • Stitch markers (optional)

Sizes:

12-24 months (chest circumference 22 inches, length 18 inches)

Gauge:

12 double crochets and 7 rows = 4 inches in twisted lace stitch (adjust hook size if necessary)

Abbreviations:

  • ch - chain
  • dc - double crochet
  • st - stitch
  • sk - skip
  • sl st - slip stitch

Instructions:

Body of the Sundress:

  1. Ch 92 (or a multiple of 6 + 2 for foundation chain).
  2. Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook, (ch 1, sk next ch, dc in next ch) repeat across, dc in last ch. Turn.
  3. Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), *ch 1, dc in ch-1 space; repeat from * across. Turn.
  4. Row 3: Ch 3, (dc in next dc, ch 1) repeat across, finish with a dc in the top of the last ch-3. Turn.
  5. Repeat Rows 2 and 3 until your piece measures 10 inches from the start or desired length. This creates the twisted lace pattern.

Creating Ruffles:

  1. Change to a double crochet ruffle: Ch 2, *dc in next st, ch 1; repeat from * around the bottom edge of the dress. Join with a sl st to the top of the first dc.
  2. For the next ruffle, ch 2, *dc in ch-1 space, then (dc in the next st) repeat around. Sl st to finish.

Finishing:

  1. Weave in all ends neatly using a yarn needle.
  2. Block the dress lightly to shape and enhance the lace pattern.
  3. Optional: Add decorative buttons or bows as embellishments.

Enjoy your beautiful crochet sundress!
