Materials
- Worsted weight yarn in three colors (e.g., light pink, medium pink, dark red)
- Size G (4.0 mm) crochet hook
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle
- Yarn for the heart (optional, same as darkest color)
- Jar (any standard-sized jar)
Stitches Used
- Ch – Chain
- Sc – Single Crochet
- Hdc – Half Double Crochet
- Dc – Double Crochet
- Sl st – Slip Stitch
Pattern
Base
- With the light pink yarn, make a magic ring.
- Round 1: Ch 1, 8 sc into the ring. Join with sl st to first sc. (8 stitches)
- Round 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in each stitch around. Join. (16 stitches)
- Round 3: Ch 1, *1 sc in next stitch, 2 sc in next stitch; repeat from * around. Join. (24 stitches)
- Round 4: Ch 1, *2 sc in next stitch, 1 sc in next 2 stitches; repeat from * around. Join. (32 stitches)
Body
- Change to medium pink yarn.
- Rounds 5-8: Ch 1, sc in each stitch around. Join.
- Change to dark red yarn.
- Rounds 9-12: Ch 1, sc in each stitch around. Join.
Heart Motif
- With the darkest yarn, create a small heart using the following steps:
- Ch 3, turn and in second ch from hook, make (1 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc). In the last ch, make (1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc).
- Chain 1, turn, and sc across the top (1 each in all stitches).
- Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing on the jar cozy.
Finishing Touches
- Sew the heart motif onto the front of the cozy using the tail from the heart.
- Weave in any loose yarn ends.
- Slip the cozy over your jar and fill it with treats, flowers, or a candle!
