Instructions
Body
1. CO 80 stitches (sts) using the long-tail cast-on method. Place a stitch marker to mark the beginning of the round.
2. Work in a ribbing pattern (K2, P2) for the first 4 inches to create the hem. This will give your sweater a nice fitted look around the waist.
3. After the hem, switch to a stockinette stitch (K every row) and knit until the body measures approximately 18 inches from CO edge.
4. For the next row, begin the neckline shaping: K40, place next 20 sts on a stitch holder (this is for the neckline), K40.
5. Continue to work in stockinette stitch on the remaining 40 sts for 4 more inches. Ensure that you shape the shoulders by binding off 6 sts at the beginning of the next 2 rows.
6. Now return to the 20 sts on the stitch holder for the neckline. CO 5 new stitches at the beginning of the next row. Continue in stockinette until it measures about 7 inches from the start of the neckline.
7. Bind off all stitches, leaving a long tail for sewing the shoulder seams.
Sleeves
1. Using the circular needles, CO 40 sts for one sleeve.
2. Work in ribbing (K2, P2) for 4 inches for the cuffs.
3. Change to stockinette stitch and continue until the sleeve measures 17 inches or your desired length.
4. Bind off, leaving another long tail for sewing up the sleeves.
5. Repeat the same for the second sleeve.
Assembly
1. Fold the body in half with the RS facing out and sew the shoulder seams using the long tail from each side.
2. Attach each sleeve to the body at the armholes and sew using the long tails from the sleeves.
3. Weave in all loose ends using a tapestry needle.
Finishing Touches
1. Block your finished sweater by gently washing and laying it flat to dry. This helps even out your stitches and gives your piece a polished look.
