Instructions:
Right Glove
- Cast On: CO 40 stitches using the long-tail cast-on method onto three double-pointed needles, distributing evenly (10 stitches on each of the first two needles, and 20 stitches on the third needle).
- Join in the Round: Being careful not to twist your stitches, join to work in the round. Place a stitch marker to indicate the beginning of the round.
- Cuff: Knit 1, Purl 1 ribbing for 2 inches to form the cuff.
- Body of the Glove: Knit every round until the piece measures 6 inches from the cast-on edge.
- Thumb Gusset:
- On the next round, knit 20 stitches, place a marker, CO 2 stitches, then knit the remaining 18 stitches. (You now have 42 stitches total)
- On the next round, knit to the marker, increase by knitting into the front and back of the next 2 stitches (this is your thumb gusset), knit to the end of the round.
- Repeat the last increase round until you have 10 thumb gusset stitches (total of 46 stitches).
- Once you have 10 stitches in the gusset, knit 12 stitches, place a marker, and then place the next 10 stitches on a holder or scrap yarn for the thumb.
- Continue knitting until the glove measures 7 inches from the cast-on edge.
- Finishing the Glove:
- Now, you’ll start the fingers. Knit to the marker, CO 2 stitches, and then knit to the end of the round (48 stitches total).
- On the next round, knit to the marker, K2tog, and then knit to the end of the round.
- Repeat the last round until you have 28 stitches left.
- On the last round, K2tog around. Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail, and thread it through the remaining stitches. Pull tight and secure.
- Thumb:
- Remove the 10 stitches from the holder, place them back on the needles. Pick up 2 stitches on each side of the gap (total 14 stitches).
- Knit in the round for 2 inches. On the last round, K2tog around. Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail, and pull tight through remaining stitches. Secure.
Left Glove
- Repeat all steps as above, switching thumb gusset increases and casting on for the left glove.
Finishing:
Weave in all yarn ends with a tapestry needle and enjoy your cozy knit gloves!
