Colorful Granny Square Blanket Pattern

Materials

• Worsted weight yarn in various colors (suggested: yellow, blue, purple, red, brown, white, mint, and orange)
• Crochet hook size G/4.0 mm
• Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
• Scissors

Gauge

Each granny square measures approximately 4 inches x 4 inches (10 cm x 10 cm).

Abbreviations

• ch = chain
• sl st = slip stitch
• dc = double crochet
• sp = space
• st = stitch

Instructions

Granny Square

1. Round 1: With your first chosen color, make a slip knot and chain 4. Join with a sl st to form a ring. Ch 3 (counts as first dc), 2 dc in ring, ch 2, *3 dc in ring, ch 2*; repeat from * to * two more times. Join with a sl st to top of beginning ch 3. Fasten off.
2. Round 2: Join a new color in any ch-2 corner sp. Ch 3, (2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in the same sp (corner made), *ch 1, in next ch-2 corner sp make (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc)*; repeat from * to * around, ending with ch 1, join with a sl st to top of the beginning ch 3. Fasten off.
3. Round 3: Join another new color in any ch-2 corner sp. Ch 3, (2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in the same sp, *ch 1, 3 dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, in next corner sp (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc)*; repeat from * to * around, ending with ch 1, 3 dc in last ch-1 sp, ch 1, join with a sl st to top of the beginning ch 3. Fasten off.
4. Repeat rounds 1-3 using different combinations of colors to create a total of 48 granny squares, or until your desired blanket size is achieved.

Joining Squares

Arrange your granny squares in a pattern you find pleasing with alternating colors.

1. Using the whip stitch method or your preferred joining technique, sew the squares together, working one row at a time. Weave in all yarn ends using the tapestry needle.
2. Continue joining squares until all are connected to form the blanket.

Border

For a finished look, add a border around the entire blanket.

1. Attach white yarn to any corner. Ch 3 (counts as first dc), 2 dc in the same corner, *ch 1, 3 dc in each ch-1 sp along the edge*; repeat from * to * around, adding (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in each corner. Join with a sl st to the beginning ch 3.
2. Fasten off and weave in all ends.
