Introduction
Welcome to the delightful world of crochet! In this blog post, we will guide you through creating a colorful crochet bear lovey that is not only adorable but also perfect for cuddly playtime. With vibrant stripes and a cute bear head, this pattern is ideal for beginners and will make a wonderful handmade gift for any little one. Let’s get started on this fun and engaging project!
Materials Needed
- Yarn: Medium weight (worsted) yarn in the following colors:
- Pink
- Orange
- Yellow
- Blue
- Red
- Hook: 5.0 mm (H) crochet hook
- Gauge: 4 inches = 12 stitches in single crochet
- Needle: Tapestry needle for sewing pieces together
- Scissors: For cutting yarn
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Create the Bear Head
- Using red yarn, make a magic ring.
- Work 6 single crochet (sc) stitches into the magic ring.
- Increase evenly to 24 stitches by working 2 sc in each stitch around for the next rounds.
- Continue to work even (without increasing) for 5 rounds.
- To shape the head, start decreasing:
- Round 1: *sc in the next 2 stitches, then decrease* - repeat around.
- Round 2: *sc in the next stitch, then decrease* - repeat around.
- Round 3: *decrease* - repeat around until you have a small opening.
- Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing. Stuff the head lightly with fiberfill before closing the opening.
2. Attach the Ears
- Using the same red yarn, create 2 small circles (about 2 inches in diameter) for the ears.
- Once completed, sew the ears onto the top sides of the bear head using the tapestry needle.
- Embroider eyes using black yarn or safety eyes if preferred.
3. Create the Body and Blanket
- Change to blue yarn and chain 40 for the blanket base.
- Work in rows of alternating colors (pink, orange, yellow, blue) using half double crochet (hdc):
- Row 1: Hdc in each chain across (40 stitches).
- Row 2: Change to pink, hdc in each stitch across.
- Repeat alternating colors for a total of 12 rows.
- After completing the rows, add a border in pink:
- Work 1 round of single crochet around the entire blanket, placing 3 sc in each corner to keep the edges flat.
4. Create the Arms
- Using orange yarn, chain 10.
- Hdc in each stitch across (9 stitches).
- Fold the arm piece in half and sew it onto the sides of the body using the tapestry needle.
5. Finishing Touches
- Attach the bear head to the center of the blanket using the long tail left from the head.
- Ensure the head is securely sewn on and the arms are positioned comfortably.
- Finish with ties at the corners of the blanket for added detail and charm.
Congratulations! You have successfully created your very own colorful crochet bear lovey. This cuddly toy is perfect for snuggling and playtime, and it’s sure to bring joy to any child. Happy crocheting!
