Step-by-Step Instructions
Base of Bag
- Using the deep burgundy yarn, cast on 80 stitches.
- Work in garter stitch (knit every row) for 10 rows.
Body of Bag
- Switch to stockinette stitch (knit on the right side, purl on the wrong side) and work for 20 rows.
- Begin asymmetrical shaping: On the next right side row, k2tog (knit two together) at the beginning of the row and ssk (slip, slip, knit) at the end of the row. Repeat this decrease every 4th row for a total of 5 times.
- Change to charcoal yarn and continue in stockinette stitch for 10 rows.

- Change to midnight blue yarn and work in stockinette stitch for 15 rows.
Top of Bag
- Switch back to deep burgundy yarn and work in garter stitch for 5 rows.
- Bind off all stitches loosely.
Strap
- With deep burgundy yarn, pick up and knit 10 stitches along the top edge of the bag.
- Work in garter stitch for 80 rows or until the desired length is achieved.
- Bind off and sew the strap securely to the opposite side of the bag.
Finishing
- Weave in all ends using a tapestry needle.
- Block the bag to shape, if desired.
