The Cozy Cable Knit Pillow Free Pattern
Transform your living space with this elegant cable knit pillow, perfect for adding a touch of sophistication and warmth to any room. This pattern combines classic cable techniques with modern design for a truly unique home accessory.
Materials Needed
- Yarn: Worsted weight yarn, 400 yards
- Needles: US 8 (5mm) knitting needles
- Gauge: 18 stitches and 24 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch
- Pillow Form: 18-inch pillow form
- Scissors: For cutting yarn
- Tapestry Needle: For weaving in ends
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Cast On: Begin by casting on 80 stitches onto your US 8 (5mm) knitting needles. Ensure your stitches are not too tight to allow for easy movement.
- Ribbing: Work in 2x2 ribbing for 6 rows. To do this, knit 2 stitches, then purl 2 stitches, and repeat this pattern until you reach the end of the row. Turn your work and repeat for a total of 6 rows.
- Begin Cable Pattern:
- Row 1 (Right Side): *K2, P2, C4B (to create the cable, slip 2 stitches onto a cable needle and hold it at the back of your work, knit the next 2 stitches from your left needle, then knit the 2 stitches from the cable needle), P2; repeat from * to end of the row.
- Row 2 (Wrong Side): *P2, K2, P4, K2; repeat from * to end of the row.
- Repeat Cable Pattern: Continue to repeat Rows 1 and 2 until your piece measures 16 inches from the cast-on edge, ensuring to end with a Wrong Side row.
- Bind Off: Once your piece measures 16 inches, bind off in pattern. This means you will bind off in the same stitch pattern you have been working (K2, P2). Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail for seaming.
- Make Two Pieces: Repeat the above steps to create a second identical piece for the back of the pillow.
- Block Your Pieces: Block both pieces to ensure they measure 18 inches square. This will help even out your stitches and prepare them for seaming.
- Seaming: Using the mattress stitch, seam three sides of the pillow together. To do this, align the edges of the two pieces, insert your needle into the edge stitches of both pieces, and pull through gently to avoid puckering.
- Insert Pillow Form: Once three sides are seamed, insert your 18-inch pillow form into the opening.
- Finish Seaming: Seam the final side closed using the mattress stitch, ensuring the edges are aligned and the stitches are even.
Your cozy cable knit pillow is now complete! Enjoy the warmth and sophistication it brings to your home decor.
