Crochet Vintage Carousel Horse Blanket Free Pattern

Materials Needed:

  • Worsted weight yarn in pink, cream, gray, and brown
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors
  • Size H/8 (5.0mm) crochet hook
  • Stitch markers

Abbreviations:

  • ch - chain
  • sc - single crochet
  • dc - double crochet
  • tr - treble crochet
  • sl st - slip stitch
  • st(s) - stitch(es)
  • bobble - bobble stitch (5 dc incomplete, closed together)

Pattern:

Center Spiral:

  1. With gray yarn, start with a magic circle, ch 1, and work 6 sc into the ring. Do not join. Place marker to indicate start of round. (6 sts)
  2. Round 1: 2 sc in each st around. (12 sts)
  3. Round 2: *1 sc, 2 sc in next st,* repeat around. (18 sts)
  4. Continue increasing by 6 sts per round until circle measures approximately 24 inches in diameter, changing color to pink and cream as per image, creating alternating sections.

Outer Bobble Horse Border:

  1. With gray yarn, work 3 rounds of sc around the edge, maintaining increase pattern to keep circle flat.
  2. Switch to cream yarn. Next round: Work 1 round of dc stitches, evenly spaced, to create base for bobbles.
  3. With pink yarn, *work bobble st, 3 dc*, repeat around.
  4. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Horse Appliqués:

  1. Using cream and brown yarn, crochet small horse motifs, using basic amigurumi techniques to shape the body, head, and legs.
  2. Attach horses evenly spaced around the circle using yarn needle and coordinating thread.

Final Edging:

  1. Switch to pink yarn. Work a scalloped edge: *5 dc in next st, sl st in next st,* repeat around.
  2. Fasten off and weave in all remaining ends.
