Crochet Stylish Textured Market Tote

Materials Needed:

• Worsted weight cotton yarn (approx. 300 yards in main color, 100 yards each in two contrasting colors)
• Size H (5 mm) crochet hook
• Tapestry needle
• Scissors

Gauge:

12 double crochets = 4 inches in textured stitch.

Stitches Used:

• Chain (ch)
• Single Crochet (sc)
• Double Crochet (dc)

Pattern Instructions:

Base of the Tote:

1. Ch 32.
2. Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across. (30 dc)
3. Row 2: Ch 3, turn. *Dc in next stitch, 2 dc in next stitch*; repeat from * to * across. (45 dc)
4. Row 3: Ch 1, turn. Sc in each stitch across. (45 sc)

Body of the Tote:

1. Switch to contrasting color A (make a slip knot, put on hook).
2. Row 1: Ch 3, *skip 2 stitches, dc in next stitch, ch 1*; repeat from * across. End with dc in the last stitch. (15 dc, 15 ch-1 spaces)
3. Row 2: Ch 1, turn. *Sc in ch-1 space, 2 dc in next dc*; repeat from * across.
4. Continue this pattern until the piece measures 15 inches tall.

Straps:

1. Join contrasting color B to top of the tote.
2. Row 1: Ch 6, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across (5 sc).
3. Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. Repeat for a total of 30 rows.
4. Attach the strap to the tote by sewing down each side securely.

Finishing:

1. Weave in all ends using a tapestry needle.
2. Block if necessary to shape and flatten the tote.
