Crochet Snug Textured Convertible Poncho Blanket Free Pattern

Materials Needed:

  • 6 balls of bulky weight yarn (in two contrasting colors)
  • Size L (8 mm) crochet hook
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Gauge: 8 double crochet stitches = 4 inches

Finished Dimensions: Approximately 50 inches wide and 48 inches long

Instructions:

Foundation Row:

Ch 60. Join with a sl st to form a ring, being careful not to twist your chain.

Body:

Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in each ch around. Join with sl st to top of ch 3. (60 dc)
Round 2: Ch 3, *skip next st, 5 dc in next st (shell), skip next st, sl st in next st; repeat from * around, ending with sl st to top of ch 3. (12 shells)
Round 3: Ch 3, 5 dc in the first shell. Repeat this for each shell around. Join with sl st to top of ch 3. (60 dc)
Repeat Round 3 until your work measures 48 inches from the beginning.

Edging:

Change to Color B. Ch 1, sc evenly around the poncho, placing 2 sc in each corner to round them off. Join with sl st and fasten off.

Hood:

With the piece laid flat, find the center back. Attach yarn at the center and ch 1. Work 30 rows of sc, and fasten off. Fold the hood down and sew it securely to the neck edge.

Finishing:

Weave in all ends. You can add a decorative button closure at the neck for extra style.

Care Instructions:

Hand wash in cold water and lay flat to dry.
