Chunky Cable Knit Pom-Pom Hat Pattern

Materials

• Super bulky weight yarn in lavender, approximately 100 yards
• US size 13 (9.0 mm) circular needles, 16-inch length
• US size 13 (9.0 mm) double-pointed needles for crown shaping
• Cable needle
• Large pom-pom (store-bought or handmade)
• Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
• Stitch marker

Gauge

8 stitches and 12 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch

Instructions

Ribbed Brim

1. CO 48 stitches. Join in the round, being careful not to twist stitches. Pm to indicate the beginning of the round.
2. Work in k2, p2 ribbing for 3 inches.

Cable Pattern

1. Round 1-2: *P2, k4; repeat from * around.
2. Round 3: *P2, C4F; repeat from * around.
3. Round 4-6: *P2, k4; repeat from * around.

Repeat rounds 1-6 until the piece measures approximately 8 inches from the cast-on edge, ending on a Round 3.

Top Shaping

1. Round 1: *P2, k2tog, k2; repeat from * around. (40 stitches)
2. Round 2: *P2, k3; repeat from * around.
3. Round 3: *P2, k2tog, k1; repeat from * around. (32 stitches)
4. Round 4: *P2, k2; repeat from * around.
5. Round 5: *P2tog, k2; repeat from * around. (24 stitches)
6. Round 6: *P1, k2; repeat from * around.
7. Round 7: *P1, k2tog; repeat from * around. (16 stitches)
8. Round 8: *K2tog; repeat from * around. (8 stitches)

Finishing

1. Cut yarn, leaving a 6-inch tail. Thread the tail through remaining stitches and pull tight to close the top.
