Baby Bear Hooded Cocoon Set

Materials

  • Lightweight yarn (approximately 50g of baby blue color)
  • Size 4.0 mm (G) crochet hook or size appropriate for your yarn
  • Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
  • Scissors
  • Stitch markers
  • Optional: safety eyes or felt for ears

Gauge

22 stitches = 4 inches in double crochet. Adjust hook size if necessary to achieve gauge.

Hooded Cocoon Pattern

Hood

  1. Start with a slip knot and ch 44.
  2. Row 1: dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in each ch across. (42 dc)
  3. Row 2-5: ch 3, turn, dc in each st across.
  4. Row 6: ch 1, turn, (dc2tog, dc in next 6 st) 6 times, should end with 6 stitches.
  5. Row 7: ch 1, turn, sc across to finish the top; fasten off.

Body of Cocoon

  1. Using the same yarn, ch 60.
  2. Row 1: dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in each ch across. (58 dc)
  3. Row 2-10: ch 3, turn, dc in each st across.
  4. Row 11: ch 1, turn, (dc2tog, dc in next 6 st) rep across, ending with 8 st left.
  5. Row 12: ch 1, turn, sc across and finish off.

Assembly

  1. Attach the hood to the top of the cocoon using sl st or whip stitch.
  2. Create two bear ears using a small circle of yarn, either making them from felt or crochet (ch 4, join to form a ring, make 6 sc in the ring, join).
  3. Attach the ears to the top of the hood with the tapestry needle.
  4. Weave in all ends and ensure all parts are secure.
